Dr. Dustin Kempton is a Research Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Georgia State University, where his research has focused on interdisciplinary data science as a member of the Data Mining Lab since 2018. Some of his previous work has involved leveraging representation learning to enable the identification and tracking of amorphous solar phenomena in multispectral image data. This representation learning method was also utilized to construct dimensionality-reduced descriptors for image regions in the same multispectral imaging data to enable indexing in content-based image retrieval. Dr. Kempton’s more recent research has been on developing deep learning-based surrogate models of physical simulations, utilizing limited amounts of input data.
