Neurodiversity and Talent in the Workplace

Neurodiversity refers to the natural variations in the way that people’s brain’s function and process information. This can also refer to the diversity of brain function and behavioral traits within a population. It recognizes that there is a range of different ways in which people think, learn and process information. This includes differences in learning styles, cognitive abilities, attention and sensory processing including neurological conditions such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia to name a few.
Neurodiversity is a concept that recognizes and values diversity of neurocognitive abilities within the workplace and acknowledges that people with neurodiverse profiles have unique strengths and challenges. Neurodiversity can also be a source of talent and creativity. People with neurodiverse profiles may have unique ways of thinking and problem-solving that can bring fresh perspectives and new solutions to their teams. However, neurodiversity can present challenges in the workplace. People with neurodiverse profiles may struggle with certain tasks or face barriers to employment due to stigma or discrimination.
